The enactment of the Affordable Act in 2010, which requires all the citizens to have health insurance, has had a significant impact in the sector. The law has driven consolidation among the care providers in the industry. The consolidation taking place in the industry is geared towards meeting the requirements of the law in regards to spending and quality. Many positive and negative implications have stemmed from the implementation of the ACA (Pope, 2014).
Some of the pros that can be associated with the statement in regards to the benefits that will be realized from the implantation process. For instance, ACA has eliminated the monopoly power that was possessed by the healthcare providers of dictating the costs and driving them up at will. It is also clear that the level of efficiency will be increased through the implementation of the law. Another pros presented is the fact that the general hospitals have been shielded from cheaper competitors since they will have the capability to provide uncompensated care. The regulation by the government is beneficial to the citizens and the ones that are underprivileged as well as against unfair completion by some medical institutions (Pope, 2014).
On the other hand, many cons can be associated with the ACA. The endorsement of the anti-competitive environment is quite detrimental to the uprising care centers in the sector.
