Human Rights in Canada
In a report endorsed by Amnesty international, uncertain deaths and disappearances of women from indigenous communities across Canada are highlighted, and different methods the government should use to combat the problem are also recommended (“UN Human Rights Report” n.p.). One of the recommendations contained in the article is that there should be a review of measures and models that the provincial and territorial legislators use while making and enacting laws. The text also went ahead to endorse that there should be coordination of police officers across the country which will aim at thwarting disappearances of women and girls from indigenous communities. In summary, the recommendation advice on reviewing laws that govern how laws are made at different levels of administration that will help focus more on the loopholes that might be leading to the criminal offenses. Coordinating the police will assist in enforcing the above move and ensuring that it’s effectively operational.
As a member of the police command, I would employ the following steps to solve the problem through policing initiatives. I would start by handpicking a group of police officers that will work in collaboration with the community to build relationships in the villages and reserves (“Working Together To End Violence” n.p). A considerable percentage of the officers should be from respective communities that they will serve to ensure that they speak the same language and have a similar view of life.

Another strategy that I would put in place is bringing together police officers from the above groups who protect the indigenous groups and women and use them as a vessel of correcting ideas on how some of the crimes are planned and are active affecting them. That will ease the process of decision making while devising various laws that will govern how criminals arrested are handled. The last strategy is making sure that there is strict implementation of the above rules by the police and on different administration levels. To warrant compliance with the regulations, oversight committees comprising of reputable individuals from both parties will be formed to review performance and recommend changes where required.
