Impact of Chronic Exposure to Violence on Children
Part I
Children experience or are prone to violence in various ways. They may observe parents who are irresponsible with resentment, notice assault between parents, hear caregivers threaten each other, or bear the consequences of a cruel assault (Moffitt, 2013). Irrespective of whether violence leads to physical injury, listening to intimidations regarding the safety of caregivers affects children adversely. The most exciting aspect of this topic is the fact that cruelty increases the risk of child abuse. Children who experience any form of violence are highly likely to become victims of child abuse (Moffitt, 2013). Specifically, chronic violence poses severe threats to not only physical welfare but also the emotional and psychological well-being of children. Exposure to violence at an early age also results in poor school performance. Importantly, exposure to violence affects the active development of social skills among children as they learn destructive lessons regarding the use of violence and power in a relationship.

The elements were particularly interesting as they provided me with the opportunity of gaining practical experience through fieldwork. I got the opportunity of interviewing various players in the field of psychology and learning about their views regarding the issue of chronic exposure to violence among children. As part of the course requirements, I undertook a capstone project that allowed me to recognize the magnitude of the issue of childhood exposure to violence. I hope to utilize the knowledge that I gained while undertaking this project to evaluate trends regarding the problem of childhood exposure to violence as well as concentrating my efforts towards solving the issues and saving children.
