Objectives of research in the field of social work

The objective of research in the field of social work is based on investigating what human beings think about their environment in order to identify the needs or problems that occur through the habitat and verify how the individual reacts. Based on this, the author (Cerda, 2016) proposes 8 objectives for the development of an investigation.

  • Know the opinion of the individual and the surrounding environment.
  • Motivation oriented to participation
  • Perception of the important sectors that cover the environment
  • Problem assessment
  • Preferences of the individual inside and outside their habitat

All part of a problem there.

Knowledge in social work

By the end of the 20th century, it was possible to consolidate social work as an official profession at the same time as the officialization, its experts were formed, therefore, it is constituted that the profession has knowledge and methodologies of other disciplines; It is knowledge that to produce new findings it is necessarily to combine practice with the theory.

The social worker must be a reflection of that, as indicated by “there is no practice that works without theory and always taking into account the interrelation of the different existing theoretical frameworks” (2014, p. 75)

Conflicts with each other the practice and theory must go hand in. This being the constant struggle to maintain a knowledge production that until now remains very poor. A study in Chile indicates that the problem arises from class classrooms:

A complaint of professionals and, who also expose some authors, is that theory and practice are very far away from each other. There is only necessary to listen to professionals when they say that students have a lotAnd they don’t know how to treat people for better diagnoses that are able to do. (Epistemology and Social Sciences Magazine, 2014)

The profession must be aware and take another course no longer to use sources from other social sciences, but that of its own epistemology becomes a source for the other disciplines, which entails that, of traditional research next to its method, you thinkin creating a new methodology.

As a new method is known to create from the need for the new problems facing society are not the same as 20 or 30 years ago, therefore, the methodology used at that time has become obsolete. So, social work professionals must constantly acquire new knowledge so as not to fall into the vice of the use of traditionalist methods. (Esteban & del Olmo, 2016)

The production of knowledge in the field of social work must be potentiated with the current students of the career and that they already produce professionals in which new research is highlighted in their own knowledge and not taken from other sciences, rather it is expectedthat the other sciences use the knowledge of the social worker. (Martinez, 2016)

Martínez also indicates that the little knowledge of knowledge in the social area is due to the fact that it is more accessible and easySubjective but not in the search for verified information.

Social Work Research Lines

The strengthening of research in the social field must be a daily job, since in this part the development of the professional through knowledge. When addressing in previous paragraphs the lack of research sources within the profession, several European universities, have been unified to create new paths based on current problems and be able to solve these problems. (Martinez, 2016)

Main European research lines in Social Work

  • Families, social networks and gender relationships.
  • History of Social Work.
  • Social Work and Human Rights.
  • Intercultural and practical social work for diversity.
  • Organizational Social Work.
  • Development, management and participatory planning.
  • Psychosocial intervention as an epistemological space.

Variables of the environment of individuals for social work

Next, the main variables to be considered for the hypothesis approach for current problems will be mentioned.

  • Geographic Physics: Problems related to habitat failures
  • ECONOMIC: problems related to lack of income, unemployment and jobs without benefits
  • Cultural: Education, Rights, Social Levels
  • Political-administrative: limiting decisions, legal problems

conclusion

The main theme addressed was the state of the production of knowledge within social work, it was analyzed and it was indicated that ways must be created for the search for good results to strengthen the knowledge of professionals and not create knowledge from research from other disciplinesso they are within the social field such as psychology or sociology.

As the world changes and evolves, future professionals will have the tasks of analyzing our society and witnessing their needs and lack. Thus, the investigative methods of any science must do so, because the current problems are not the same as 20 or 30 years ago, therefore, methods, types and lines of research related to everything current must be created.
