Chapter 5 of Gorski
The chapter five of the book mainly tackles the stereotypes concerning the people experiencing poverty. The author provides several stereotypes especially the stereotypes that involved women and the poor in the society in the society. For instance, the author quotes Fredrick who says that women are bad drivers. The author of the book argues that stereotyping has to be a natural and human response in the face of limited context-specific knowledge. Additionally, a woman stereotype about men is considered to be aggregation in most cases although she uses them to protect herself from sexual assault.
A lot of stereotypes are framed to target the poor in the society, and there are so many stereotypes that object the poor and the society believe that the poor are inattentive and inefficient. Many poor parents avoid the parent-teacher meetings due to these stereotypes (Gorski, 2017). Through judgment, the stereotypes are reinforced, and many people may believe that they are true. The author has discussed in detail several stereotypes that are common in the society in chapter five. The stereotypes involve the low-income families and education, which are mostly inaccurate. They include the following
The Poor Do Not Value Education at all. It’s one of the most common stereotype that is coined around the failure of many poor parents to attend the parent-teacher conferences in schools.

The inability to attend the meeting makes large group people believe that poor people do not value education because of the low turnout of parents in school during meetings. The parents do not attend the meeting due to the feeling of humiliation when mixed with wealthy parents. In fact, many parents value the education, and they advise their children to work hard and limit activities that take a lot of their time. For instance, they limit watching television. No evidence can prove that the value of education in poor people differ with those of wealth (Strauss, 2013). Other stereotypes include people are lazy. Naturally, poor are substance abusers, Poor Are Linguistically Wanting, and Poor Communicators and Poor Are Unproductive and Inattentive Parents.
Scientific School Management: Testing Immigrants and Expert
The push for scientific education management led to the establishment of educational administrators to control the learning institution that has less public participation and keep the schools out of politics, which affect education system in a country. Chapter ten of the book mostly focuses on the establishment of special education class system that will ensure the students access quality education, controlling immigration as per the test score and multiplying the intelligence of the population.
Additionally, the chapter intensively explores meritocracy and professionalization of education administrators and hence ensuring every stakeholder in the education system understand their duties and perform them accordingly. The school, therefore, must involve every party that supports education especially the parents. The management system also restricted the immigration of people from other parts of the world mainly south and Eastern Europe (Spring, 2013). The students with disabilities are catered for, and the system will ensure modern construction of classes and other facilities that accommodate students with the disability.
My Thoughts
The society has developed very many stereotypes that target the poor people in the society. The stereotype is created with an objective of undermining the poor and trying to prove to them that they were born poor and nothing good can come out of them. Different researchers have done intensive studies concerning these stereotypes, and they have proved that the stereotypes have no evidence to support their argument.
The society should, therefore, be cautious about the stereotypes especially those that target the children. Both teachers and parents should refrain from the parents that show children that they are in a particular condition due to nature. The researchers have proved that all human beings have the same capability to perform equally despite our economic and social differences.
Development of stereotypes targeting specific people can make them accept the idea propagated by a few in the society who want to take advantage of other people. For instance, the wealthy group wants to make the poor to believe that they can’t move from poverty life and they were born to be poor. On the other hand, the children from wealthy families may also think that they born successful and their wealth just comes without much effort. The notion may affect them, and they may tend to avoid working very hard.
Stereotypes of this kind are also dangerous when it comes to the relationship of the people because some people may feel that a particular group hate them and therefore they should associate. For instance, many poor parents avoid attending school meeting because of the stereotypes that are coined towards them. They advise their children at home and encourage them to work very hard. These stereotypes can interfere with unity and harmony of the people and hence lead to division in the society.
The stereotypes many discourage the poor and their children may not work very hard at school because the teacher may fail to give them the attention they need and focus on teaching the children from the wealthy families. The children from the low-income families may undermine their capabilities and intelligence due to the negative information they receive from their counterparts. The problem may widen, and the number of poor people may continue increasing, and some children may drop out of school when they learn that they were not meant to achieve anything good in the community. The society should focus on the information that will motivate all the members to work hard and achieve their ambitions. A false stereotype should be eliminated because they are a source of central problems affecting people harmony and their achievement in life.
The stereotypes lead to more problems compared to what the stereotypes developers wanted to achieve. In fact, the society becomes poorer when the people are discouraged from working hard and achieve their dreams in life. The society should, therefore, try to analyze the following questions.
