Chapter seven of the book the Omnivore’s Dilemma depicts what Pollan calls the industrial food chain. Pollan discovered that corn has become abundant in the regions of America and in this aspect he acknowledged that he ought to have eaten any available meat to ensure his investigation comes to an end. Pollan then decided to take his family including his wife and son to one of the adjacent McDonald where everyone did different order meals. In as much as his wife tends to object wasting meal when one consumes a fast food, his son shared the salads offered by McDonald Company (Pollan 85-133). In this aspect, the son is seen to have fulfilled one of the marketing strategies where one can deny eating of fast food since there are a better alternative and healthy meals.
In the middle of chapter seven, Pollan came across a handout about the nutrition facts that tend to talk about the best food. He then discovered that one of the primary ingredients that are used to make fast food is a carcinogen. Through this investigation in fast food meal, Pollan finds out that almost every fast food meal taste and looks like a fast food since they are made from a common ingredient (Pollan 85-133). He also finds out that most fast food meals are made of corn, and hence this makes them cheaper for consumers from low economic status. In his investigation, the author realizes that the main contributing factor to obesity, heart diseases, as well as type II diabetes in American societies gets attributed to industrial food chains.
