A consent form is a legally binding document that shows a participant is willing to partake in a study. Furthermore, it proves they agreed to the probable the risks associated with the study. Participants receive a form to sign after agreeing to the set terms and conditions and the outlined risks and costs. This form is the consent form. To conduct a study, there are two significant aspects to consider. These are the consent form and the participant information sheets (PIS). The participant information sheets are a broad overview of what the study entails the participant requirements, the risks and costs. The consent form highlights the key points contained in the participant information sheets and a section where the participant is required to sign.
The basic information in a PIS are the heading of the research study, an introductory paragraph of the study, the aim of the study and why a particular participant is deemed fit for the study. Moreover, a section of the PIS outlines that taking part in the study is voluntary, the proceedings, venues, duration, expected outcomes of each assessments are outlined. Furthermore, the tasks of the participants, the risks they will be exposed, likely benefits to be accrued are outlined.

A debriefing form is part of the research process used when the participants might be deceived in studies that require deception. The participant is informed of the research hypothesis, why it is necessary for them to be deceived and the process of deception. Therefore, a participant has to fill a debriefing statement as proof of their informing.
