“In the future, other countries such as China and India will rise, and the United States’ power will decline, thus creating instability in the world.”
I agree that the rise of emerging powers like China and India will lead to a decline in the United States’ power and cause instability in the world, but only to the extent that these nations will challenge the United States. Snow notes “the degree and extent to which rising powers challenge the given order depends to a great degree on the areas in which the rising powers seek to influence the existing order and establish their own places” (49). China’s and India’s rise in power will most likely make it difficult for the US to safeguard its interests and cause disagreement, which will increase uncertainty in the world. This instability will arise because for the period the United States has been a superpower, it has provided security and novel technologies, sold goods and services, exported capital, as well as paved the way for the emergence of new powers. Snow reveals in his work that “Dominant powers—by providing security, exporting capital, selling goods and services, and creating new technologies— unwittingly enable the rise of new centers of strength. They also stir envy and the desire to emulate. The United States has done all these things” (58). Therefore, envy may exist in other nations, which may choose to challenge the United States’ global position once they gain their own power.
Wait! Instability in the world paper is just an example!
However, this depends on their intentions. Consequently, the rise of nations like China and India will cause some instability, but the level of this instability will depend on their approach to overtake the United States.
Additionally, the rise of China and India will cause instability primarily because of how the United States will react. The approach of the rising powers, particularly China, is to become dominant while striving for peace, progress and unity with other nations (Vaz-Pinto 210). In other words, almost half of the global society sees China’s rise as an opportunity for countries to cooperate and engage with each other (Heng 2). Nonetheless, the United States’ reaction will determine whether there will be conflict. History shows that the US has always opposed rising powers as was the case in the two World Wars and the Cold War. Consequently, there will be some instability as the US responds to the new powers, but this uncertainty may be short-term.
