Abstract
Education and other forms of professional training usually prepare people for their careers. Moving the career path involves more training and work experience. Regardless of one’s position in the path, entry or continuous; selling an individual’s competency to an employer is key. A job interview is the most critical determinant of whether an employer hires someone. In this assignment, a job interview is explored under the common interview assessment questions. The paper further provides a hypothetical example of how to respond to the assessment professionally. The assessments are often designed to gauge individual’s different skills and qualification. Among the popular assessment as explored in this paper includes the presentation of individual’s personality, communication skills, organization skills, people management skills, task accomplishment strategies, creativity, ambitions and remuneration expectations. The interviewers select suitable employees based on how they respond to such assessments. It is therefore important that interviewees are adequately prepared. The assessments may be different depending on industry and a specific company; the important thing is to know the general aspects that the assessments are based on and how to best respond to them.

As a Project Manager of International Emerging Infectious Program-Center for Disease Control (IEIP/CDC). I was directly in charge of the research assistants and data enumerators of the program. Among the research assistants was a statistician who was in charge of data analysis. I had noticed with concern that from time to time, he would leave out important data interpretations after conducting the analysis. My efforts to rectify this had somehow brought a strained relationship between us. I knew he did not like me. On one occasion when he was supposed to run t-test statistics on some set of data, he instead performed correlation test. This information was very important to the project; therefore, I had to find a way of communicating with him. I invited him to the staff cafeteria after work on that day. It was an unofficial strategy but one that had to be. I managed to set a friendly mood to ease the tension between us; we talked about general staffs including the weather. Once I was sure he was easy to me, I explained to him my thoughts about how the analysis should have been. I explained to him why it was important to establish the significant relationship between the variables he was analyzing. I also managed to point to him the issues from the past that I had issues with. I invited him also to tell me the issues he had with me. He told me about how he didn’t like the approach I used against him the first time he had the issue. We decided to henceforth, establish a cordial working relationship based on mutual consultation, trust, and respect. Since that time, our working relationship has greatly improved, and we have not had issues anymore.
Communication is a key component in effectively achieving an organization’s objectives (Men & Stacks, 2014). My strategy was essentially anchored on this principle
Tell me about yourself.
I believe in work as my source of livelihood hence I always strive to be as best as I can in my job. To achieve this, I value the following aspects: hard work, trust, honesty, respect, communication, reason, and punctuality. I always strive to accomplish my duties within the defined guidelines. I consult whenever possible. I also strive to inculcate similar or better work cultures to my juniors to improve working relationship and effectively achieve the organization’s objective
Tell me about a time when your supervisor was not satisfied with the quality of your work. What actions did you take?
I had many discrepancies in field data report from the enumerators I was in charge in. Specifically; the “not asked” response option in the interview was above the acceptable level. My supervisor was not satisfied with my work; I had to engage the enumerators in a refresher training session of one day.
Describe a typical day.How do you decide what to work on and what goals to accomplish?
My typical day is consistent. I have my jobs planned for the whole month. Hence, every week and day have specific schedules unless an anticipated schedule comes up
Give me an example of a time when your schedule was interrupted by unforeseen circumstances. How did you handle it?
One morning, we received an impromptu visit from the project’s principal investigator. We had to suspend the activities scheduled for that morning. The most affected group was the enumerators under my supervision since every enumerator is supposed to handle ten interviews a day. Only five interviews were to be handled in the afternoon session, the remaining schedules were redistributed for the next five days, with each day having an extra interview schedule. The enumerators, therefore, had to handle 11 interviews for the five days that followed.
What is your greatest weakness?
Trying to be a perfectionist and expect the same from everyone around me
Tell me a time in which you felt it was necessary to change your actions to respond to the needs of another person.
One of my enumerators had been involved in an accident over the weekend; I set aside Friday the following week and selected a team with whom we went to visit the enumerator at the hospital.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In a more senior management level, possible a principle investigator
What are your salary requirements?
I believe the Human Resource manager has appropriate salary scale commensurate with the job requirement. However, I will be willing to negotiate with the department about my contract when the I get the job offer. Meanwhile, securing the job is my priority
Why should I hire you?
I trust my professional, educational, and work experience qualification as most suitable for this job. I am very confident that I can deliver the best possible quality
