Zimbardo Reflection: Research Study (Hock) Relating to Participant Fairness
The Zimbardo research is centered on the study of ethics code and fairness on individual participants in a given society. At the beginning of the study, Zimbardo enumerates some purpose of the code of ethics such as establishing the integrity of an individual’s profession as well as gaining public trust. More importantly, the study points out some psychological reasons why people need to be guided by the code of ethics in the society (Susannah 7). Thus through this research of Nuremberg trial as well as that of Tuskegee syphilis, the society vividly understands the importance of the code of ethics. Therefore, with the two leading studies of Nuremberg trial and Tuskegee syphilis, the researchers walk us through the conceptual participant fairness steps.
However, the Zimbardo study views on the current society are instrumental in defining the participants’ fairness in making decisions. For instance, the findings in the study suggest that an individual’s psychological well-being is interconnected to the dignity and respect he /she command from the society (Susannah 18). Personally, I believe in personal ethical understanding of an independent mind, which needs not be swayed around. Contrary to my belief, the current society views personal ethics from a collective responsibility that every person in the society ought to subscribe to.
Based on the Zimbardo research, it can be established that the today’s events regarding social hierarchies and political discourse on immigration and poverty in the U.
