What the Canadian Government is doing to Ensure Healthy and Safe Environment
The issue of environment safety has been a hot topic in the world being highlighted by the media and the environmentalist every day. Many governments are struggling with issues such as global warming, pollution and waste management in their countries. Environmental pollution or change has great impacts in the lives of humans and animals. The health of many people is threatened by unhealthy environment leading to diseases such as cancer, cholera and also disabilities. Research has shown that cases of the unhealthy environment have risen due to increase in increase in industrialization and population. Therefore, with the rate of pollution to our environment governments have taken policies to fight this issue to protect the citizens. With states adopting these initiatives, the Canadian government is not an exception. The Canadian government has put into place measures that are contributing to making the environment safe for the Canadians. With the many policies, this government has established it’s clear that it’s doing everything possible to battle the environmental issue in the country. Below are some illustrations that describe the effort put in by the Canadian government to provide a safe environment.
The government of Canada has made it a right of every citizen to have access to clean water. The country is endowed with large natural resources of water such as large rivers and lakes.

It’s due to this right that the government came up with a plan to provide clean water in 2007and 2008. It approved funds that would be used in cleaning up water bodies in the whole country. Water bodies are mostly contaminated by chemicals and waste dumped by people and industries. Industries that dump their chemical waste in the waters and lack proper waste disposal saw the government come up with policies to regulate waste management to avoid more contamination of the water bodies. The sewerage treatment measure has improved the government’s fight putting it ahead in this battle. Additionally, the government came up with a chemicals management plan restricting entry of toxic chemicals into its waters. Besides, an initiative has been established to fund water science whereby research would be carried out to find out more ways to be used to ensure a sustainable clean water ecosystem. The research on water will also provide quality water to the Canadians by coming up with measures which help the households to treat their waste water. This ensures that the water released into the water bodies is not harmful. These actions show that the government has put strong policies to provide clean water for the nation and to reduce water pollution (Davies et al. 275).
The Canadian government is concerned about the right of safety for all employees working in the country. The law on Canada labor code grants the workers and employers as well the right to speak up on issues about their health and safety at workplaces. Employees have the right to be educated on the conditions at their place of work. Proper training on how to protect themselves against the chemicals is conducted at the workplace. It’s also the right of employees to access the employers and governments information on the health and safety of employees either through their medical representative or the health committee. Also, the employees have the right to speak their opinions about the safety measures in the workplace. In some organizations, safety committees are created to deal with the workers’ health and security issues. This happens when the organization has more than 300 employees. Workers under the code are permitted to reject work with reasons that it poses a danger to their health or the health of their fellow employees. On the other hand, employers are subjected to the law of ensuring that employees get healthy and safe work environments. In an atmosphere that has employees interact with hazardous products, the employers have the responsibility to provide protective clothing and put signs of warning on unsafe products. Furthermore, it’s the employers’ responsibility to ensure that any employee complaints and the refusal of duty are investigated. At the end of the year, two annual reports have to be submitted by the employers to the Labor program. The reports contain the hazardous employee reports and the report by the workplace committee. Therefore with the labor code laws, the government has put in place enough measures that protect the working citizens of Canada by ensuring they work in healthy and safe surroundings (Savan et al. 0562).
Just like the government has made an effort to reduce water pollution, by all means, air pollution is also a concern for many Canadians. The majority of the Canadians attribute pollution as the cause of their diseases. The government, therefore, has put into place measures that battle with air pollution. There are many air pollutants in the current world, for instance, the cars, industries, greenhouse and fossil energy. The government has taken measure to work with the non-governmental organizations and the public to reduce the emission of air pollutants into the air space. The government has come up with a ‘10-year clean water agenda’ which has the mandate of ensuring that the air pollution is reduced. What’s more, there are regulations that have been put into place by the government requiring industries that emit harmful substances into the air, to prepare a pollution prevention plan. This plan will help the industry to come up with technology that ensures clean contents are produce and the waste is treated. Many industries that use harmful sources of energy such as petroleum have been forced to adapt to clean energy such as wind, solar and water that do not emit harmful waste substances to the environment. Strict measures to deal with greenhouses which emit carbon dioxide causing global warming have been established through the Canadian Environmental Protection Act 1999. Thus, the government is fully committed to providing a clean environment for all Canadians (Davies et al. 280).
In conclusion, the illustrations above make it very clear that the Canadian government has not been left behind when it comes to providing a clean and healthy environment for its citizens. The content above justifies that the Canadian government is doing enough to ensure that the environment is safe and healthy. The debate on providing a safe and healthy environment is an important and beneficial issue that has to be given priority and budgeted for by the governments due to the current change in climate. Human activities are increasing at a high rate, and they consume a huge part of natural resources hence making the ecosystems disappear. The ecosystems have to be preserved for the generations to come otherwise if measures are not taken the world will turn to a desert bring to extinction animals and humans. Further, a clean and healthy environment reduces diseases and promotes a high quality of life and culture. Nature contributes to the enjoyment of life, for example, use of beaches, beautiful sceneries, forests, and mountains. The environment is also the source of food and water and needs to be preserved by all means. Finally, the environment provides economic befits through culture and wildlife by attracting tourism. With all the benefits provided by the environment, all the governments worldwide should prioritize this issue to safeguard the future of the world just like the Canadian government has done.
