Teaching Grade 1 Maths
Teaching Grade 3 mathematics requires adequate preparations to deliver the necessary content. I think it is one of the most interesting encounters since the teacher has the option of using manipulative to develop student’s understanding. However, it is challenging to teach the subject when the teacher does not understand what he or she is teaching. Early development of lesson plan, identification of the right teaching aid and other learning materials is important for the lesson. To avoid this, I would need to prepare teaching materials and develop precise instructional strategies. Preparation and proficiency ensure delivery of quality content to students. Teaching digit addition is important at Grade 1 especially since it requires practice and preparation from both the teacher and student.
I think manipulative counting and use of worksheet will play a key role in mastering one digit addition concepts. Introduction of the topic will involve different mastery activities which include asking students if they know anything in addition and after that introduce the topic (Carbonneau et al., 380). I will demonstrate one-digit addition by providing two examples and display on a whiteboard then ask students to solve related problems. Explaining the topic by using manipulative would facilitate understanding. Besides, allowing students to respond and provide answers would enhance one-digit addition skills. Simple addition is important at this stage, and therefore, each student can be given 3-5 manipulative.

Wait! Maths paper is just an example!

They can also be provided with worksheet without manipulative to count on the sheet and represent the number of items.
I think Assessment would be important at the end of the lesson since it determines how the student independently mastered mathematical facts. I will also check whether concepts and procedures required for the addition were delivered and assess students’ assignments. If this is not achieved then reinforcement on their understanding can be provided in during the lesson.
