Medical care seeks to provide the necessary healthcare services to ensure that the members of the society are in good shape and healthy. It plays the roles of health maintenance, illness and injury prevention, and treatment. Therefore, it is prudent to conclude that medical care or healthcare sector is one of the most crucial areas in an economy as it significantly contributes to the development of an economy both directly and indirectly. Medical care helps the population stay healthy for longer. As a result, they become more productive and therefore take part in the growth and development programs in the country. Furthermore, salutary nations are more likely to become wealthier as most of the resources that could otherwise be channeled to the medical sector are diverted to other areas of the economy. In this case, I am persuaded into believing that medical care is a unique commodity in the society.
The most suitable theory for this discussion is theory X which recognizes the uniqueness of medical care. Medical care is different from other types of goods and services in various ways (Grossman, 2017). First, when it comes to medical care, consumers, in this case, the patients are unable to make regular consumer choices as those in other sectors of the economy. Most of the medical procedures and operations within medical care delivery are a matter of life and death. As a result, patients undergoing or in need of medical treatments are limited regarding the ability to choose not to receive medical attention just because of the expensive nature of the medication.

For everyday goods and services, consumers have the freedom to decide not to buy a product if it is costly.
Buying a chair would not be difficult. Consumers can easily describe the type of chair they want. However, when it comes to purchasing medical care, patients would need the help of a health professional as buying a suitable drug for a particular infection is not just a matter of reading online reviews. It requires several years of studies and experience (Manners, 2017). From the above discussion, it is clear that healthcare plays a crucial role in the development of a nation. It is also evident that medical care is not just like any other type of goods and services, it is a unique commodity.
