Negative Impact of Increased Immigration to the United States
The infographic below illustrates the negative implications of increased immigration to the United States. Among the challenges that are associated with rising immigration include an increase in unemployment rates, high crime rates, increased poverty levels, rising insecurity and stagnating economic development (Blau and Christopher 71).
Rising immigration, both legal and illegal has immense negative impacts on the United States economy. First, the rates of unemployment shoot up. When the immigrants and the native Americans scramble for the available jobs, a larger portion of the population becomes unemployed. The country ends up with more qualified talents, compared to the available opportunities, leading to excess supply in the labor market.
With many people unemployed, there is a chance for high crime rates. Due to low household income, most families are unable to cater for their needs. This leads to a rise in crime as most of the citizens would attempt to venture into illegal businesses (Blau and Christopher 78). With rising crime rates, the country realizes poor socioeconomic trends.
Excessive immigration to the United States also leads to increasing poverty levels. Due to low income among families, most of the citizens live below the poverty line. The population rises higher than the available resources can fully cater for. Poverty also comes from the fact that unemployment rates rise constantly.
