My Favorite Food
Fried rice has always been my favorite meal. The smell of the frying rice always makes me drool whenever I walk past the kitchen. A spoonful of fried rice will always take me down the memory lane to the happy moments as I break it down slowly in my mouth before swallowing. The texture, aroma, appearance, culture, smell, and in this case taste are all the variables that influence people’s preferences for different types of food. Although it is intricate to describe the causes of individual preferences of food dislikes and likes, personally, what I was exposed to as I was growing up, society, and smell have all considerably influenced my likeness for rice.
Smell plays a huge role in influencing people’s likeness for a certain type of food. People will often prefer dishes with attractive smells. Notably, the taste receptors in our tongues can only detect the primary tastes which are; sour, bitter, and sweet. Nonetheless, the taste receptors cannot detect the fermented smells and yeast, which are mostly present in the volatile oils, and they also play a huge role in influencing society’s preference for a certain type of food. The volatile oils in fried rice will always make me salivate due to the distinctive scent that the rice produces. The eccentric scent due to the frying will always bring out a more appeal to my nose making me enjoy the meal even more.
Even though I enjoy fried rice with some added flavor, I do not enjoy consuming it with hot spices.
Wait! My Food Likes/Dislikes:Smell, Taste, Texture, Appearance, and Culture as Causes paper is just an example!
It is quite difficult for me to take fried rice with hot salsa even if it is medium. The hot spice such as chilies always makes my eyes watery as I struggle to swallow the food. Sometimes I even go to the extent of swallowing the food with the assistance of cold water. However, I enjoy fried rice which has been added some marinated flavor. The flavors burst in my mouth making me enjoy the meal, but if too much is added, it can easily overwhelm me. What I totally dislike are the chili powders that some people add in their fried rice. I have tried a number of times to take the chili powders with my Mexican relatives, but it has never been a desirable encounter. It has reached a point in my life that I utterly believe that spicy hot food will never be my favorite. At the same time, I am so much convinced that upbringing and culture play a lot in influencing what people like or dislike eating due to the simple reason that it makes a person get used to a certain type of food. As I grew up in North America, my mother used to serve us a lot of the Italian dishes which mostly consisted of fried rice and chicken. These meals were always accompanied with spices like oregano, garlic, rosemary, and basil alongside the tomato sauces and the creamy parmesan and I grew up to like them so much. Even at this age, a plate of fried rice will always take me down the memory lane to those dinners at home hence giving a familiar sense of being at home. The olfactory center located in the brain is closely linked with person’s memory, mood, and limbic system. Thus, the olfactory center accounts for my response towards the unique scent of fried rice since we could eat this meal even for breakfast as I grew up.
The reason why I dislike certain food that at the same time some people like is due to the sole reason ; the feeling inside my body just after I have consumed the food. Unlike fried rice, it is very easy for greasy foods such as chips to make me feel bloated or sluggish. Rice is a very healthy food, as a matter of fact; it is the predominant source of energy among all cereals including corn (maize) and wheat. Clearly, eating rice is a very healthy choice, and I never regret even after consuming close to five plates a day. The meal will always maintain the body fit as it is very nutritious as compared to the synthesized foods such as pizzas.
Even though it is quite difficult to notice it, numerous factors influence our preferences for the different types of food. In the modern society, we have many artificial foods with superior tastes. During the medieval ages, humans could look for food to meet the survival needs, and they could add spices and flavors to act as preservative agents so that the food could go for long without going stale. However, in this modern time, the different types of food that we enjoy consuming are all influenced by their distinctive scents, appearances, the comfort that they provide, and the length of time that we have been consuming them. It is, however, important to make nutritious choices all the time like fried rice.
