Neurotrack
Neurotrack is a company that was determined about finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. This is a disease that was the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. According to many experts, treating AD successfully depended on early detection and therapy. Kaplan, the CEO, and founder of Neurotrack was hopeful that the tests conducted by his company would become the definitive tools in predicting and diagnosing the disease. Most of the therapeutic drugs produced by the company during the clinical trials were unsuccessful in treating or delaying the onset of the AD. The company also faced stiff competition from other companies that were trying to offer diagnostic solutions for Alzheimer’s disease.
In 2012, Kaplan was ready to change her business model and thought of how to commercialize the technology. She felt the need to collaborate with other companies and she started talking about her company in conferences and meeting with potential pharmaceutical partners and investors. She established a board of scientific advisors and Neurotrack was effectively launched at DEMO Fall conference for innovative products and technologies (Hamermesh, Kind & Knoop, 8). In March 2013, the company emerged the winner in the health technologies category during the Southwest Festival and this marked its journey towards being successful. In the same year, the company was able to raise $2 million which had happened through Kaplan’s networks. She has been introduced to the CEO and founder of Social Capital by a friend.

The publicity helped Kaplan and her company and she talked to other pharmaceutical companies about helping them in populating their studies with AD pre-symptomatic participants. Within seven months, Kaplan was able to secure the first partnership for her company. The company’s two other partnerships took about two years to finalize. It also had an incredible scientific advisory board which significantly contributed to its success. The company was also made of a team of individuals who were more than willing to learn on how they can make the business better as they try to find solutions. Her determination and resilience is what steered her company towards being successful. She had an undying focus to make her company better and to provide solutions for the treatment and management of AD.
