Guglielmo Marconi is often recognized as the architect of the radio. As a young man, Marconi read Heinrich Hertz’s biography who had experimented and written about early forms of wireless transmission. Guglielmo then duplicated these experiments successfully in his home sending transmissions. Actually, communication over long-distances has been in existence ever since the mid 19th Century. People used the telegraph to communicate messages using a series of short and long clicks. Using this technology, far distances like England and the United States were connected with cables crossing the Atlantic Ocean. By late 1870s, the technology had been used in the development of the telephone, which was able to transmit one’s “voice over the cables” by its predecessor.
When Guglielmo made wireless technology popular, his colleagues viewed it initially as a way that could “allow the telegraph to function in areas that were not connected by cables.” Early radios were used as devices of communication between naval ships and stations on land; “person-to-person communication” was the center of attention. Nonetheless, the broadcasting potential – “sending messages to a large group of potential listeners” – was not realized until later on in the advancement of the communication means (Butsch, n.d.).
There is no doubt that the past; few decades have witnessed drastic changes in the field of technology. The world has increasingly become dependent on this phenomenon due to the numerous benefits realized so far.

In particular, the field of telecommunications has experienced major transformation to the extent that the world has increasingly been referred to as a global village. This is due to the unbeatable advantages derived from the application of technology in this field. The improved telecommunications today plays a crucial role in how we communicate. Wireless technology especially offers people with the opportunity to connect easily due to their numerous features. Mobile forms enable people to save time-based on communication features such as short messages, calls, and multimedia messages.
“Broadcasting Arrives”
The wireless technology needed to come up with a radio transmitter and receiver which were quite simple, and the capabilities to create such devices got to the public domain. After the First World War, the ban on the radio was lifted with the close of the turmoil in 1919, few stations started operating using the technology that was developed during the time of war. Many of the unregulated stations developed regular programming which included sports, religious sermons, and news. Amateur “radio operators” crowded the airwaves so fast. They broadcasted messages to anyone within their range. By early 1912, the government came up with regulatory measures which required limited and licensed frequency ranges for operators of radio. “Congress passed the Radio Act of 1927, reaffirming the intent of the federal government to exercise exclusive control over interstate and foreign radio transmission and to issue licenses for the use of designated frequencies, reserving all claims of ownership to the public. It created a new body, the Federal Radio Commission (FRC), with legislative, executive, and judicial authority.” (Lloyd, 2018).
The 1920’s offered people with this time of “fast-paced” adventure and fun. Among the foremost part of the 1920’s life was entertainment. A whole new entertainment practice was introduced to people’s lives by radio. Through radio utilization likewise, people were able to experience a new means of entertaining themselves. Also, radio changed the culture of society through its widespread use. Furthermore, the technology gave people a new, efficient and effective way of communicating.
