Chomsky’s Themes
Chomsky’s Teachings to Christians
Noam Chomsky is a modern-day political activist, linguist, naturalist, and psychologist. From his major themes and ideas, Christians can learn that morality is not all about expressing the right or the wrong thing. Humans are part of a fast-changing, complex biological world whose determination is unique. There is a preexistent structural foundation in humans that determines the limited range of moral decisions, actions, and judgments that they make. Chomsky calls this structural foundation a generative system, which literately means the brain (140). Mind or brain differs from one person to another, so it is irrational to expect everyone to make moral decisions based on one model, which is the right or wrong measure. Therefore, Christians should leave a window of diversion when determining moral decisions because people are dissimilar.
How Chomsky’s Criticism Informs Decision-making
Instead of politically structured power, Chomsky vouches for anarchism, connoting that it can endure anything (143). He not only views power as a curse but also as an enslavement machine that certain groups people use to oppress humanity and curtail socio-economic changes. Impliedly, this position informs Christian’s moral decision making by suggesting that people should not depend on actions and rules inflicted by those in power to have moral decency. Instead, the moral decency of persons should emanate from their inner selves and personal judgment.

Most Important Ideas from Chomsky
Personally, what I consider most important from Chomsky is his empiricist idea about human nature and morality. This idea defines moral bounds of human beings, emphasizing that humans are malleable beings who are open to shaping, not by their political affiliations but by their understanding that morality has no limits. No one is beyond the realms of moral requirements for a stable society. This idea can help me make fair, moral decisions based on a Christian a foundation; not leadership position nor power.
