Non-Nursing Theories
Name Date
Institution Affiliation Over the years, nursing practices have evolved and have become complicated as a result of the nature of their practice. Moreover, advancement in current nature of patient acuity calls for constant progression and changes associated with the nursing practice. Nursing theories are not old. They began conception in the mid-twentieth century. Earlier on, nursing borrowed theories from other fields; sociology, physiology, physics among others. In this context, we discuss the Kurt Lewin’s theory of change which is an example of a non-nursing theory. According to the theory, there are three critical stages in which change occurs.
The unfreezing stage is the first change and involves an overhaul of traditional thoughts in people’s mind. People begin to comprehend potential effects of various changes. Ultimately, they overcome the restraining forces that keep off the changes (Deckelman, 2010). Movement phase is the second stage and is characterized by the transition of thought, perceptions, and behaviors which makes people more productive and active. The third and final stage is the refreezing stage. In this stage, changes experienced in the first two stages are solidified into workable practices (Dennison, 2007). Driving forces, equilibrium, restrain forces and equilibrium are the key aspects experienced in this phase according to Kurt Lewin’s theory.
Driving force shows the motivation people have towards the changes while restrains forces exhibit the interference toward the desirable changes.

Wait! non nursing theory paper is just an example!

The collision between this two forces consequently leads to the development of an equilibrium change phase which implies that no change is realized in this phase. This non-nursing theory can be applied in the nursing field through in-depth comprehension of human behavior. By doing so, managers can effectively reinforce the driving forces and suppress the retrain forces and thus realizing the unfreezing phase in a way to steer positive results in the refreezing stage.
