78-year-old Mrs. Sarwecki was diagnosed with left-sided hemiplegia. The condition is lifelong, and it affects on one side of a person’s body. Mrs. Sarwecki treatment entails Passive Range of Motion Exercise, and in medication, she will need metformin Hydrochloride PO, Enoxaparin SC, Metoprolol PO, and Olanzapine PO. And since she cannot move with smooth, she will require assistance with her ADLs. Finding a fit nurse for this task is the problem considering Mrs. Sarwecki does not understand English.
The most important objective in this phase of CVA is to avoid causing any further complication on the patient’s condition. A nurse will assess Mrs. Sarwecki’s neurologic status and vital signs at an interval of every four hours. Doing this will help in the identification of a cardiovascular sign that tries escalating blood flow? Examples of such signs include; fluid overload, s3 & s4 heart sounds, cardiac dysrhythmias, and hypertension.
Since the patient’s condition (hemiplegia) is quite challenging and complex the nurse caring will involve multitasking. This is to say that many nurses will be required starting from nurse specialists to practitioners for the patient’s outcomes to improve (Theofanidis 1). The advantage of involving many nurses is not only to enhance professional autonomy, but it is also because they might devise and initiate more personalized plan care. In most case, a nurse intervention for a stroke patient is to prevent secondary brain injury.

However, since in this case, Mrs. Sarwecki already has hypertension the practitioners’ work will be a bit more complicated as they will have to provide the patient with general body support and help maintain the airways.
Due to the language barrier issue, the patient’s neurological status and appropriate positioning with always be determined by identifying her level of consciousness. There should be one practitioner that will be doing a follow up on the patient’s state. Some of the things he will be checking are the diet offered to Mrs. Sarwecki, ensuring that the head of her bed is raised to a sitting position, review her gag reflex and evaluate the ease with which she swallows.
As this nursing care is initiated, its primary objective is to help the patient be comfortable to prevent further complications. It is essential for her to restore much blood flow as soon as possible to minimize cellular damages (NRSNG Academy). The medicine prescribed to her will go a long way in helping on the restoration of blood flow. Although there is a language barrier, there is hope that through this caring scheme the involved nurses will come up with an appropriate means of communicating with the patient. Another goal that should not be forgotten is ensuring the patient never struggles in doing anything by herself unless it is meant to help improve her state.
Since the patient has a left hemisphere stroke during the nursing intervention pacing her on the affected side should be avoided. Essential objects for her should be put on the right-hand side (Unaffected side). Nurses could use sign language to educate the patient on how to take conscious care on the affected hemisphere. Persons that will be helping Mrs. Sarwecki with ADL’s should be presentable, charming and friendly so that she gets more comfortable and cooperative in ensuring her condition improves. In conclusion, analyzing reports from a speech therapist and all the nurses involved will always help in noting whether the patient is recovering.
