Nursing Personal Values and Research
One of my values in nursing is being empathetic. I try to understand my patient’s state through feelings and thoughts and therefore experiences what the patient is going through (Wood, 2016). By understanding what the patient is going through, I can follow up on the right treatment for a patient. Also, empathy helps me to make follow up on the patient since I want to see the patient in a good state or getting out unhealthy conditions. Follow up includes regular check up on a specific patient in the ward or inquiries through a phone call on the progress. I believe that treatment does not just mean prescribing drugs or injections but making sure that the treatment is effective to the patient. Also, showing concern raises a patient’s satisfaction which can lower conditions like pressure or ulcers.
I believe that nursing is not just a job but an opportunity and a calling to save lives. I, therefore, embrace caring as a value in nursing practice. I go an extra mile to show compassion to patients through socializing, talking and listening to them (Wood, 2016). Through sharing, I can be able to know more about the patient and what could help during the treatment process. I believe that the process of healing starts with the self-confidence of the patients which they get through socializing with them. Self-sacrifice is another value which I uphold to ensure patients get extra care which would help them recover.

I follow up with specific patients during extra time to see whether they are in need of further medication to help them recover quickly. I review records of patients to check on those who might need drug change or other medical adjustments.
As a nurse, I am involved in research to develop ways which can promote health and increase the effectiveness of a patient to respond positively to a health problem. I come up with interventions such as creating programs which can bring patients who suffer the same disease so that they can share experience advice with each other. Besides, I identify ways which can help improve the health being of a patient such as stopping alcoholism.
