Reflection on the Chapter
Based on the sixth section of the book that mainly focuses on the path-goal theory, I am confident that I reflect the concepts of leadership styles in my work life. Currently, I work at a retail shoe workshop. My daily duties mostly revolve around customer service and phone calls. I also perform other responsibilities related to home deliveries, inventory, box counties, taking shoes off shelves, directing returns, and exchanges. We actively work in teams to improve efficiency. As an active participant, my central role in the group involves encouraging my colleagues and getting them to meet the daily goals of the store. The store has structured its everyday model in a manner that enables me to accomplish the concept of participation, which is critical in leadership. Precisely, working in the retail sector has helped me to recognize the part that leadership styles play to encourage teamwork.
Rating myself on “Desire for Control” and what Motivates Me to Be a Productive or Effective Worker or Student
Centered on the “Desire for Control,” I rate myself as participative. As a leader, I aspire to provide a relaxed environment that will not only motivate employees for an actual realization of tasks but also ensure quality. I believe in teamwork as the most efficient way of completing tasks efficiently and prioritizing the achievement of allocated responsibilities. Participative is the best fit for me since my desire for control encompasses uniting people to complete tasks within assigned deadlines efficaciously.

Besides defining goals, leaders should clarify paths, get rid of obstacles and provide support to ensure efficient realization of functions (Northouse 117). I am motivated to invite the rest of the team to share in the decision-making process. As a participative leader, I believe in consulting with others to obtain their philosophies and outlooks and incorporating them into decisions regarding group organization.
