Personal music players’ effects on social interactions and personal safety.
A mother leaves her baby with its 16 years old brother. The baby chokes, but the teenager does not notice this because he is listening to music with earbuds intact in the ears. If the baby dies, who do we blame? Apart from causing accidents that could have been avoided, personal music players can limit people’s social interactions.
Social interactions thrive through constant physical and verbal interactions. When would people who constantly listen to music using earplugs talk to other people? Imagine a parent trying to warn their daughter against a sensitive topic like safe sex. On one ear, music is playing while on the other, the daughter pretends to listen. The mother will be frustrated by the lack of complete attention. Someone like that cannot meet new people, make friends or develop meaningful relationships. Music is awesome, but like every other thing, too much of it is poisonous. People have adopted the culture if having earbuds on all the time. Assume a scenario where a group of teenagers is walking along a deserted road. They assume that no car would pass by. With loud music playing in their years, they are probably dancing. A car’s brakes fail, and it comes horn blazing, but they cannot hear it. If they perish, we only have the mp3 players to blame. Earbuds affect our hearing if overused. Research has indicated that the normal hearing ability reduces especially if one uses faulty earbuds.

On the other hand, music is a very helpful leisure activity. It can help avoid boredom and depression. The important fact is knowing when to listen to music and when to put them away. For example, when walking, when taking care of children, when in school and when in groups, we should keep the earbuds away.
In conclusion, it is important to enjoy music since it is a better pass-time activity than so many others. However, if we always have earbuds on, playing loud music, we might miss out on connecting with the people in our lives. We can miss our chance of making amazing friends if we are isolated continuously from our environment.
