Songwriters often utilize logic and emotion to communicate a useful message to their audience regarding issues affecting the society such as race, relationships, politics, or the standing of the world. A well-formulated argument characterizes good music. Similarly, Pink Floyd, in his album, The Wall, uses his song, Hey You, to develop his case. This article seeks to interpret the song’s meaning, and how Pink uses the music and visuals to build his argument.
Pink Floyd uses his song to express his themes of fear, dismay, and isolation (“Hey You – The Wall Analysis”). In Hey You, Pink makes a plea as he begins to realize that being locked away from the rest of the world was not as good as he imagined it would be. He, therefore, calls for help from anyone beyond his wall who might hear him. The song almost seems like an instruction book written by Pink to the individuals already creating a barricade: “Don’t help them to bury the light/ don’t give in without a fight.” (“Pink Floyd – “Hey You””) The line might also be an appeal to the external world to rescue him from his isolation, asking the outside world not to assist “them” to bury Pink’s inner light. Pink further goes ahead to beg for assistance in lifting “the stone,” the load bestowed upon him in his entire life and through the construction of his wall.
In the song’s final line, “Together we stand, divided we fall” (“Pink Floyd – “Hey You””) Pink appeals to the world to stay united.

Wait! Pink Floyd Hey You paper is just an example!

Pink realizes that he made a big mistake when he constructed a complete wall around him, isolating him from the world. He acknowledges that even though people might be a nuisance sometimes, they needed each other. And one falls when he/she seeks to be independent of those around him/her.
In conclusion, Pink successfully develops his argument of isolation through his song, Hey You. Having created a wall around him that kept him away from the people around him, Pink realizes that the decision was not right like he thought. He struggles with loneliness and appeals to the world to save him from his dismay. Pink also warns those seeking to isolate themselves from humanity on the dangers of the separation (“Hey You – The Wall Analysis”).
