Police and Children
Children have a right to be protected by law from any form of mistreatment. The police are mandated with the task of ensuring law and order for all people. As far as parents try hard ensuring the safety of their children, the police can also come in to continue with the same if the matter at hand is beyond the capability of the parents or the community at large. For instance, cases such as rape, kidnapping and harassment can be dealt by specialists who are the police. Police officers need to protect children from dangerous people due to the abduction, drugs, and gangs.
The police officers need to protect all children around the world. There are a lot of people that are kidnaping children when they come back from their schools or when they walk home from the busses. Besides, the children at times are kidnapped from their families, hence making it hard for the parents to get them back. Technological progress worldwide has helped in the recovery process of the lost and kidnapped children. For example, “More than 99 percent of children reported missing in America in recent years have come home alive,” an indication that the there is always hope when children are kidnapped (Goldberg, 2012). However, the police are the immediate officers who need to react spontaneously when informed of a missing or kidnapping incident. There are cases where the strangers study the habits of the child before kidnapping them calmly.

They use incentives such as gifts, which they offer to the child thus seducing them to follow them; “These are more acts of seduction than abduction, where the child goes willingly with the adult only to be victimized later” (Goldberg, 2012).
There are incidences when the police fail to take an immediate action of following the culprits. It gives the kidnappers opportunities to go missing and mistreat the children, thus infringing their rights to enjoy life. For instance, “Lahore’s communities blame the police for not doing enough about the apparent rise in kidnapping cases but authorities contest the locals’ version of why their children are missing” (“Women Caught In Lahore While Kidnapped The Children | Medialeaks – Pakistan Alternate Media News”, 2016). Some parents blame the police because they do not do their job; something also needs to be addressed by the parents themselves in teaching their kids. The kidnappers introduce the children into hard drugs to keep them out of their senses. It is, therefore, a threat to leave a missing child for long before finding ways to get them back since they may be impacted negatively by the drugs. Some kids do not listen to their parents, thus ending up in unbearable situations such as dropping out of schools. Some children end up as drug addicts because of the influence of the friends around them. Parents might try their level best to instill morals in their children. However, the same might not reflect in their behaviors later; “Unfortunately, no matter what you do to help your kids grow up alcohol and drug-free and avoid getting into trouble with alcohol or drugs, one day you may find that your son or daughter is in trouble” (“Listening and Talking with Kids about Addiction”, 2016). Police officers need to deal with such students when notified so that the problem does not continue growing in schools. Such students should be taken to rehabilitation centers so that the rest of the children in schools can be protected from the influence.
Gangsters are threats to the society as they commit crimes, and at times murder people. For example, in Halloween, there were a lot of gangsters that were scaring people, killing, robbing some children and others raping the victims. Gangsters are all over the world and may hurt people who have not offended them in any way. Some parents give their children money to buy their needs, but the gangsters follow them and take away their money. The same gangsters can kidnap the children from their parent, and they disappear and demand huge sums of money later on. The worst part is when children opt to join the gang groups so that they can get off the phobia of being attacked by the gangsters; “Many times children feel they have no choice. They may prefer not to become a gang member, but they cannot see any other way to avoid the situation. Children may be living in fear on daily basis and see joining a gang as a solution to problems” (“Why Young People Join Gangs and What You Can Do”, n.d.). Police officers can intervene in such scenarios where any case of a child joining an evil group is reported, making it easy for the police to identify the disturbing individuals for the necessary action.
Kidnappers, gangsters, and the misuse of drugs are some of the dangerous items that can affect the life of young people. Some of these problems come without choice, while others can be avoided if morality is observed. The police have a role to play in ensuring the safety of children by controlling such incidences. Parents can also help the police by providing adequate information related to the mentioned items such as the abuse of drugs, gang groups, as well as kidnappers.
