Decisions that I made and turned to be BadThe first job I in my life was a position of supervisor where I was in charge of about thirty people. My job entailed leading the 30 employees and then reporting to a layer of senior managers. I took up the job since the owner was a close friend of my father and I convinced him that I have the ability. However, I failed tremendously and ended up being fired since I could not coordinate my juniors appropriately and also my reporting skills to the seniors were poor. My decision was heavily influenced by overconfidence since I felt that since I had done well in my school, I was best suited for the task (Forgionne 13).
Another factor that challenged my decision is anchoring. In this case, my focus was limited to my high educational qualification with total disregard for all others. I failed to consider that a supervisor requires other skills, for instance, interpersonal communication, which is not taught at schools (Forgionne 13). Escalation of commitment was another challenge that stepped in after finding that I was not doing well. In this case, I comforted myself that I was failing because it was in my initial stages. However, six months down the line I was still doing bad and I could not coordinate the employees well hence I had to be fired. The other two challenges could not apply in my situation in any way. Hindsight bias did not apply since I had not taken the role of a supervisor anywhere else hence did not have any prior mistake to avoid making (Forgionne 14).
Wait! Poor Decisions paper is just an example!
Framing also could not apply since I was not given prior information on my supervisory role.
