RE: POPULATION STATUS ASSESSMENT
The population needs assessment is a systematic method used to identify a population group where needs are not satisfied and are facing unsatisfactory results leading to set up priorities that will do away with inequalities. A population can help commissioners needs assessment to foresee demand with the argument that future demand for services is dependent on certain conditions.
The population needs assessment consists and is limited to the four elements namely: demographic data, risk factor data to find out if people require services of health and wellbeing services, prevalence and incidence information and lastly patient or service user data about the people using the facilities, their demands and needs. The risk factors that were identified through research is that suicide can be considered to be caused by the risk factor of gender, but that is not the case for dementia. The target group at the moment is the adults aged 18+ years. Prevalence and incidence rates were used to find out the estimate of the target population together with the likelihood of the need after some time, for instance, the prevalence of the commonness of dementia in adults.
The two statistical markers applicable to the management of this situation would be Rates and Ratios. Rates would be used to measure an event over time or can be used to observe an improvement in performance. the formula for the rate is
Number of events/cases that occur over a period ×10^n Number of events or circumstances at risk during the same time 100 (70 female and 30 male) adults are reported to die of suicide according to Hawton et al.

(2009). Only 4 of them had dementia.
CALCULATION
Since n=0, 4 = number of events and 100 is the cases of risk,
4 × 1100Rate=0.04
Ratios, on the other hand, is a comparison between two things that are different and completely independent from each other. For instance, the gender of adults who die from suicide should be compared as:
female male, or x y 7030=2.333:1
The ratio of women to men that commit suicide as per the above data is therefore 2.333.
CONCLUSION
Based on the p3opulation status assessment done, there is a need to increase suicide prevention talks in women than in men. The reason for this is because the ratio of women to men committing suicide is 2.3:1. The rate of adults committing suicide due to dementia is also low at 0.04 hence not a matter of concern at the moment.
