Postabsurdist Theatre: Yasmina Reza’s ‘Art’
There are three characters in the play: Marc, Serge, and Yvan. The three of them are young men who are middle-aged who have maintained their friendship for fifteen years. They have special characters that have enabled them to sustain their friendship despite their age. They tolerate one another and worn their affinities and quirks raw.
One of the characters is Marc, a man withstand. He stands strongly with what he believes and disregards what is not valuable to him. He doesn’t care about other people feelings when making his decisions. He does not talk to them like he cares how they understand or feel about him (Reza 4). Serge, on the other hand, has dissolved in the sea of modern art. He loves and finds all the beauty in it. He even doesn’t care about marriage and relationships anymore (Reza 4). Yvan’s attitude towards art is not completely like that of his colleagues. But just like both his colleagues there some issues in life that make him neurotic. For instance, he is stressed looking for some support for his upcoming wedding. Physical production of art has less meaning to him and it is this character that makes him get belittled by his colleagues (Reza 4). However, he cares much about the feelings of Marc and Serge then they care about each other or they care about him. However, the audience later discovers him as the artist.
The title of the play “The Theatre of the Absurd and Beyond in Reza’s ‘Art’ is directly correlated to the message of the play.

Wait! Postabsurdist Theatre: Yasmina Reza’s ‘Art’ paper is just an example!

The play is full of a situation that does not make sense. They are absurd scenarios and this brings out the message portrayed in the title. For example, the three of them are friends for so many years but they have strong different personalities that conflict with each other (Reza 5). One is left questioning how are they friends? What do they share in common? What brings them together, if they can strongly disagree on one another’s values and choices?
