Poverty and Homelessness
The homeless are still part of the community they live in despite their lack of the basic needs. My community started several projects with the aim of showing some compassion to this people. There are overnight facilities built to provide temporary shelter for up to thirty men and women. In addition to a good night sleep, the guests also enjoy nutritious meals, laundry facilities, and clean bathrooms. It began as a small charity work by the youth, but it has since seen many well-wishers join the project because of the impact it has had on those living on the streets. Due to the increased financial support, plans are underway to build a health facility specifically meant for the homeless and those who cannot afford health care services.
The doors to these facilities are open every day of the week. Before entering the building, guests register their names at the entrance as a formality. The service providers then provide more guidelines to those who have been granted access. If a member of the community comes across a homeless person on the street, he or she may contact the administration for further instructions. Single men make up the biggest percentage of the homeless population in this particular community. Families with children are the second largest group followed by single women. The smallest portion is composed of children with no families. All the homeless in my community come from the same ethnic group.
According to my observation, most of them suffer from mental illness, pneumonia and skin infections.
Wait! Poverty and Homelessness paper is just an example!
Drug and substance abuse is also a notable issue among the young homeless persons. Studies show that these problems are common among most youth and children living on the streets (Romaszko et al. 2). The greatest risk is lack of health care services that may help reduce these illnesses. Therefore, the pioneers of the homeless facilities in my community have prioritized this issue in their next plans. In my current situation, I am not at any risk of becoming homeless. In case I woke up with no job and no housing, I would use my savings as a source of sustenance while searching for another post. I might also be forced to seek help from my family members if the situation worsens.
