There exist different layers for capacity analysis in healthcare services, and the most basic form incorporates measuring bed demand that helps in service planning. Capacity planning requires various techniques and tools that help in managing capacity within the hospital environment. For example, capacity analysis can be used in consideration of bed capacity in a healthcare facility thus, can be used in measuring the capacity needed for emergency services. However, capacity analysis requires a statistical process that helps in understanding different variations that exist in a healthcare environment.
Healthcare sector applied the queuing theory in the determination of capacity levels that are needed in responding to various demands in an orderly and fashionable manner. The queuing theory in healthcare facilities elimination of delays in the service sector and developing effective policies towards resource allocation within the facility. Healthcare environment has been riddled with many delays as many patients wait for a long period before accessing services form physicians or delays in schedules and procedures (Green, 2006).
