Racism
Nelson, Jacqueline, and Dunn (46) describe racism as the belief that one race is superior to the other which results in prejudice and discrimination towards individuals grounded on their ethnicity and race. We can also describe racism as an antagonism, bias or prejudice directed against people from different races believing that a particular race is superior to the other. Racism can affect anyone including at schools, public events, shopping centers and public transport. It mostly affects those people with inferior cultures and low income. Most of these people come from developing countries and face challenges when they mix with American people. Racism pits communities against one another which leads to division among people. Those in power would not like to be overpowered by those below them. People judge others regarding their color, religion and economic background. Such cases lead to the rise of tension and inequality among citizens which further divides the society.
Causes of Racism
Racism originates from the tendency in people to create racial labels based on color, religion, nationality, and race. Those who practice racial discrimination do not know how it is propagated and nurtured (Nelson, Jacqueline, and Dunn 47). Such things take place because the community and its founders had planted a seed of perception in our conscious before we started asserting our decisions. Serfdom and slavery have contributed significantly to racism in many countries.

Some extreme cases of genocide occurred as a repercussion of racism. Many people and organizations lack awareness of the effects of racism. The media also promotes racism by giving false information, and most of it is white-washed. Social stratification can also cause discrimination because the poor are seen as lesser people who do not have rights. Most of the stratified communities have many divisions regarding religion and economic background which may lead to the rise of conflicts.
Consequences of Racism
As a social system, racism structures and shapes all aspects of society. Monaghan and Catherine (56) argue that racism operates like a public structure that has its own life and organizes social relations by itself. It acts as a system of subjugation not just an ideology or interpersonal and discrimination. Racism serves as a burden to the ethnic and racial minorities. Every day leads to disappointment because a person can be fired in the workplace without notice just because of race. Insults and injuries faced by black people in America make them think that it is all about racism and mostly leads to disappointment. Racism leads to the wrong judgment of the lesser groups where judges rule in favor of the higher ethnic groups. Institutions and firms also hire people regarding race which makes another race feel inferior. The society even undermines cohesiveness and unity which leads to disruption of peace in an organization.
Prevention of Racism
We can see that racism leads to favoring of a specific community and impoverishing other societies. It leads to unjust provision of political power, education, money, and food. Racial system benefits and privileges whites and leaves out the other races and people have to fight these injustices. But to eliminate racism, we have to combat it including where it thrives and lives (10 Simple Ways White People Can Step Up to Fight Everyday Racism 2). We should work collectively because a single person cannot fight racism. Those who practice racism should think about the typical things all people share and see that everyone is equal. People should also challenge chauvinistic assumptions by supporting evidence and facts.

I accessed the data from different websites and journals. One of the journals is “Neoliberal Anti-Racism” by Nelson, Jacqueline, and Kevin Dunn which gave the information required about racism. The other article gave me the guidelines on how to fight colonialism. And the last item by Monaghan and Catherine gave me the information about the causes of racism.
Personal Implications
In my life, I will apply what I have learned about conflicts to live with others. I will no longer hurt others and will always consider their values before making judgments. I have seen that disputes like those which originate from racism can lead to genocides. I will urge the community to use the best methods of solving conflicts without harming one another. Being mindful of others helps in long-lasting friendships and makes it easy for me to cope with those around me. I have also learned that racism is something evil and people should come together to eliminate it in the world.
