Racism Wealth and Power

Wealth is defined as the abundance of material possession while political power is the ability to influence the will of people politically (Mcelwee, 2016). The two are believed to be related since observations have shown the majority of wealthy people are either in politics or tend to be more politically represented than those who are poor. Various issues influence wealthy individuals to be more politically concerned, and this incorporates their ambition to safeguard their properties. Therefore, they turn out in large numbers to campaign and vote. The other reason is that the wealthy individuals finance most of the political campaigns. Hence, elections tend to have more rich candidates vying for political positions (Mcelwee, 2016).
Consequently, most of the wealthy people in the United States are of the White race given their historical advantages compared to other races that were discriminated. This means that the representation of white individuals is more than that of colored individuals, thus, making the white race more powerful than other races in political affairs. Even though the issue of discrimination in the justice system is controversial and denied, there is overwhelmed cases of racism where some races are perceived to be criminals and are mostly targeted. For instance, African- American are believed to be targeted when arrests on drug crimes are being made yet white individuals are also involved in drug crimes at the same rate (Mcelwee, 2016). Insisting on ethical practices to ensure there is no discrimination and bias in public institutions.

Contrarily, the Supreme Court made a decision in 1896 in a case where a black person had been accused of breaking the Louisana policy by violating the Jim Crows car law. According to the black individual, his rights were infringed by this law and it influenced him to break them. The Supreme Court enhanced racism by suggesting that segregation was justified (Foner & Garraty, 2016). The ruling promoted racism and allowed discrimination where races were given separate structures. White people got the best structures or facilities while black individuals got the poorly funded and under-maintained facilities. There would still have been discrimination even if the court ruled otherwise, but the discrimination would have been hidden since it would have been a crime to do it publicly.
In 1954, the Supreme Court overturned the ruling giving orders that all schools and institutions be desegregated following a case Brown v. Board of Education (Foner & Garraty, 2016). The ruling was widely challenged by the white individuals while it was immensely welcomed and celebrated by the black people. The concept of wealth is based on summing up the amount individual assets without incorporating any debts.(M., 2011). The net wealth is higher among white people than other races. In relation to income differences, Hispanics tend to receive low wages since most of them are in low-income employments. Despite the insurance policies that cover income earners to access public health facilities, there is still discrimination (M., 2011). This is because the services are poor compared to private health facilities which are only affordable to the wealthy (Kochhar & Fry, 2014).
In conclusion, since the 1980s, schools are desegregating in the United States due to the fact courts started turning against desegregation rules made in 1954. This is negatively affecting the racial relations. The only way to ensure full potential and high achievement to students of all races is by reinstating the Supreme Court ruling of 1954 to desegregate and offer equal opportunities to students of all races (The Nation’s Premier Civil and Human Rights Coalition, 2004).
