Reader Response #2
SUVs Belong in Car Ads Only by Ellen Goodman
Ellen Goodman writes an article targeting any car buyer. It is an eye-opening piece for anyone who loves car advertisements; one can clearly tell how blown out of proportion they really are. From the very beginning, it is clear that Goodman is not a fan of SUVs and prefer small cars. She, therefore, uses emotional appeals to convince the reader to take her side. Through inductive reasoning, the author tries to persuade the readers to be on her side and hate the SUVs. There is a line that she uses to tell how SUVs cause death to many people (Katz and Lee 256). After reading this, anybody would definitely hate the vehicle for the fatalities. All in all, Goodman’s credibility can be questioned in this article since she basis her fact on daily experiences and ignores the advantages that come with owning an SUV. Her reason to hate the SUVs is not clear since there are many vehicles larger than that.
Reader Response #3
Cheap Food Nation by Eric Schlosser
Schlosser’s article Cheap Food Nation raises awareness about the negative consequences of fast food and the use of genetically modified food to feed people. According to him, despite most Americans using little money on food, they end up spending a lot. Unlike most authors, Schlosser does not state his opinion bluntly, rather, he uses the right facts; a form of logical appeal throughout the article to persuade and convince the reader on the negative impacts of the “cheap food”.
Wait! Reader Response #2 & #3 paper is just an example!
For instance, he uses statistics from credible sources to justify his claims, “about 80% of the nation’s feedlot cattle” (Katz and Lee 260). It is quite clear that some of the widely accepted practices lead to unintended indirect consequences which are expensive to treat in the long run. Therefore, any reader will at the end support practices against the use of steroids in animals to increase the growth rate and make more money for fast food companies.
