Reader Response: Grade School Humiliation
You introduce the paper very well, painting a vivid picture of what it felt like to be in a new school environment and the discomfort that it brought. You mention in the 1st paragraph on page 1 that you “needed extra help,” and which your brother didn’t. Perhaps you would have elaborated further on this paragraph why it is that you needed the extra help. Did you have a learning disability? In what way were you different? It took you four paragraphs to get to your thesis, the importance of ESL in schools, but you got to it in a captivating way. From the beginning, it is clear that the paper is about the power of positive attitude towards achieving one’s goals.
At the end of the 2nd paragraph on page 1, you write, “Hiii, come in, come in!!” further characterizing the teacher’s tone as high pitched and overly enthusiastic. This use of direct speech adds a realistic feel to the read. The 2nd paragraph on page 3 makes a valid point of how ESL ruined your early school days by separating you from the rest of the class, “Why do I have to leave my class?” I asked with half curiosity-half sadness”. What would be your recommendation(s) on improving the program to make it initially student friendly? You show the power of positive thinking on paragraph 3, page 3 by writing, “I’d told myself I`ve got to be in it for a reason and that I’d rather focus on what reason that is rather than how I felt about it once the years 4th and 5th had passed.
Wait! Reader Response paper is just an example!
”
You conclude the paper by reiterating your gratitude towards the ESL program, which was the thesis of your paper. You write how the program empowered you to overcome adversity, and propelled you to greater heights in your future. A great read indeed.
