Rights of the Victims of Crime
Victims’ rights are rights afforded lawfully to the victims of crime. The constitution of the United States started protecting crime victims after the Victim Rights Movement of the 1970s and 1980s fought for the rights of the victims and crime. The movement also created some programs that aimed at helping the victims of crime during the prosecution and even during the passage of laws at the federal, states and local levels (Waller, 2010). The movement established rights for the victims in the different countries according to the requirements of the state and these days the federal law provides some protection to the victims of crime.
The protections provided by local, state and the federal laws should be applied explicitly to the victims of crime because the criminal justice system always mistreats most of them. The criminal justice system still leaves the victims of corruption in the dark about their cases while some of the victims are always not considered and it takes a long time for their cases to be handled (Waller, 2010). If the law does not protect the crime victims, then the criminal justice system would be functionless because it is supposed to protect the crime victims and ensure that they get justice according to the laws of the land.
Though some of the crime victims always offend other people with their criminal activities, they should not be treated in an inhumane way as they are still human beings though they have gone against the laws.

They should be protected from some actions that may be a threat to their lives and be helped to change for the better (Waller, 2010). They should be taught how to live in harmony with other people. Some of their rights like the right to restitution, the right to be included in the criminal justice proceedings and the right to participate in the proceeding should not be taken away from them. They should be given a chance to change for the better through the protection of the law.
