The most crucial challenge when working with Windows server OS is making sure the files have the right security measures. Security on Windows server OS is achieved through the New Technology File System (NTFS) that usually has a Security Access Control List (SACL) (Anson & Bunting 2007). The SACL is an NTFS tool that is used to monitor access to objects on the server. Two possible techniques can be used to manage the files and folders: Group Policy or Security Policy for the FTP server. Since there is only a single FTP server and files and folders on the one computer, the best technique, in this case, is creating a Security Policy locally. The process involves the activation of the file access auditing on the Windows server OS. The next step is activating Audit Object Access and configuring the local group policy in the Active Directory (Anson & Bunting, 2007).
The NTFS permissions manage the access to both files and folders for either local or network users. There are three crucial rules: permissions are inherited from parent folders, explicit permissions override inherited permissions, and deny permission overrides inconsistent permissions. Setting the NTFS permissions on the Windows server OS requires the use of the Security tab on files and folders by merely selecting the object Properties then moving to the Security tab (Melber 2006). The security tab contains a variety of permissions for specific users.

Modifications can be made to particular users or multiple users. In the case of the same permissions for several users, the users should be in a group, and then the permissions applied to the group. NTFS permissions have several flavors from full control to special permissions (Melber 2006).
