Trustworthiness in a qualitative study is termed as the demonstration that given evidence for reported results is sound and any argument made based on the result is strong. The major components of trustworthiness are transferability, credibility, dependability, and confirmability. The trustworthiness can be established in various ways when dealing with qualitative data. These ways or strategies include triangulation, reflexivity or self-description, member checking, audit trail, prolonged engagement, and thick description.
Triangulation is a method that is used to test for confirmability and the credibility of information in qualitative studies. It is aimed at reducing the inherent bias linked with using a single source. This approach ascertains the validity of the inferences or conclusions that have been obtained from multiple sources of data (Cope, 2014).
Self-description is a strategy of testing for trustworthiness which entails discussing positions of researchers within a study and examining how their past training and personal beliefs have impacted the research findings. This strategy promotes the confirmability and the credibility of the findings of the study (Connelly, 2016).
Member checking is an approach that entails checking the study conclusions and findings by the respondents involved in data collection. It focuses on establishing dependability and the credibility of the sources (Curtin & Fossey, 2007).

Prolonged engagement with the participants of the study is aimed at establishing rapport and gaining the trust of the participants. It enables the researcher to establish pertinent characteristics and in-depth information about the participants. This prolonged engagement promotes credibility (Connelly, 2016).
Audit trail makes it possible for the reader to make an informed decision regarding the worth of the study, transferability, and quality. All this information obtained in the audit trail aids in the demonstration of the truthfulness of the data obtained (Connelly, 2016).
Thick description is used as an approach to obtaining the external validity or the transferability of a given study. This method also promotes the credibility of the research. The researcher provides sufficient details regarding the study for the reader to ascertain whether the information is transferable (Cope, 2014).
