Social Factors
Social factors are the things which mainly affect the lifestyle of the human beings. They include religion, wealth, or even family (Penman-Aguilar 2013). The social factors change with changes in time. The changes mainly affect the food developing industries. Hence, the food developers should be aware of the changes so that they may be able to produce and manufacture foods that can meet the requirements of the consumers (Penman-Aguilar et al. 2013). This paper will discuss birth rates as a social factor that impacts a given population in one of the world’s communities, and it will discuss an initiative that has been implemented to address the issue on birth rate.
The birth rate is the sum of the live births in a given population over a given period. It is calculated through live births recorded from a universal registration system which is mainly based on recording births, deaths, as well as marriages (Sedgh 2015). Based on the Kenyan Kalenjin community, the factors that lead to the growth in birth rates include some sets of cultural practices, in which the children are viewed as assets of the community. Thus, they are seen as sources of cheap and available labor (Penman-Aguilar 2013). As a result, the community ends up giving rise to many children, believing that in one way or another, the children will be of great advantage to the society.
Additionally, high birth rates may also be as a result of their religious beliefs, which mainly encourage their population to have large families and children so that they may fill the earth as dictated by their traditional religion and the bible (Sedgh 2015).

Consequently, the belief makes the people in the community to give rise to many children and large families more than they can sustain and control.
However, certain initiatives have been implemented to address the issue on high birth rates (Penman-Aguilar 2013). The Kenyan government has introduced some ways that may be used to lower the high birth rates, which include: contraception, induced abortion, and educating the community on the disadvantages of early marriages. However, contraception remains to be the best and most accessible regulation of fertility, as induced abortion is considered illegal and unacceptable in the community based on their religious, in addition to their moral grounds (Sedgh et al. 2015).
