Public assistance program commonly known as welfare is a kind of support citizens of a nation receive from the government, and an example of this program include; head start and supplemental security income (SSI). On the other hand, social security is a form of social insurance program with the example of social security for the retired individuals (George 2018). The difference that exists between the public assistance programs and the social security is based on how each program receive its cash and the individuals who are eligible for each program. This article will be based on the difference between social security and public assistance program.
The significant difference that exists between these two programs is that an individual must pay a certain amount to be eligible for the funding from the government. However, when it comes to public assistance programs, one isn’t required to pay any amount to receive the funding. Therefore social security is funded by those who are working whereby for one to secure social security for the retired individuals one must pay a special payroll tax for the period the individuals are working (George 2018). On the other hand, public assistance program receives its finances from the general tax revenues and those who receive it are those who are in extreme need. The difference that exists between these programs is crucial in that they help citizens to distinguish between the two programs.

In conclusion, the difference between social security and public assistance program is based on the recipient and financing of each program. The two programs are of great benefit to the citizens of America. However one must be eligible for either social security or public assistance program to receive the finances. Moreover, the recipients are exposed to several requirements which they must follow, and a failure to do so will limit one chance of receiving the capital.
