The first thing to do as an executive director is to harmonize the thoughts and opinions of the various stakeholders and come up with means to address the concerns of each party while still ensuring the success of the program. Seeing as Kim has already carried out a fact-finding exercise is to act on the results. In light of the new changes in stakeholders, there is need to analyze all their thoughts and ideas with regard to the running of the program as. A program of this nature is majorly based on the community’s acceptance of the work done by the organization. In addition, it is also dependent on how other stakeholders and donors think about the prospects of the enterprise.
The major priorities would be to look at the problems that have been pointed out from within the support system of the program. The various stakeholders involved in the program need to feel their involvement at every level. It is an open accountability measure the import of which is to create a sense of trust in the administration.
Therefore, it will call for the addressing of the issues brought up by the other directors. They have concerns that a lot of attention is given to raising funds as opposed to the substantive work of the program. Whereas it is important to continue with the community outreach in tackling substance abuse, a lot of money is needed for that. This takes priority as it ensures that the people most affected, that is those involved in the management and running of the program, are capable of feeling that their efforts and money have been accounted for.
In the interests of maintaining a status quo between the community and the program, further priority is given to the Narcotics Anonymous chapter who want to establish an alumni section which will majorly work on reaching out to the society and showing the success of the program to the community so that the community too can see the outcome of the work the work done by the facilities.
Sourcing government funding comes next. A lot of funding is needed in running an operation of this nature and having the government on your side might have a silver lining. However, it is hard to bank on government completely owing to the fact that there are so many other projects hinged on government funding, not to mention the politicization of the entire endeavor. In the interests of retaining the sanctity of the program and the faith of the community in its straightforwardness, then it is necessary to make sure that the various relations with the government are kept at the bare minimum.
The next priority is the city councilor’s bid for re-election. Using the program to get re-elected is a fairly selfish move but using the campaign trail for publicity is also a pretty sleek move. Therefore the program will agree to be associated publicly with the city councilor and get the publicity it desires and in the hindsight, attract more volunteers.
The plan of action will hope to address all the issues in their priorities and in some instances kill two birds with one stone. The board needs a reassurance that I am not solely bent on acquiring funds while neglecting the initial objective of the program. Dispatching more people to work on the ground in the institutions and in the schools will help. Similarly, I will work on the standards and efficiency of treatment offered to guarantee quality.
The alumni chapter will be started so that all the people that have been through the treatment program can be involved in the rehabilitation of the society. They will carry out seminars and hold summits, in which they are invited to interact with the youth, share their experiences and take views from them.
As the bill to obtain funding from the allocation of funds by the state for the purposes of reducing drug abuse and treatment of it is concerned, Showing to parliament that the course the program is running is a worthy one and needs to be given consideration while allocating funds is a vital part. To make sure that money gets to the program from parliament without ruining the relationship that exists between the community and the program will require skilfully using the community to push the legislator so the legislator sees to it that the bill passes for the good of his political career.
With regard to the volunteers, it will be important to have them approach those who are currently struggling with drug abuse politely and persuasively so that they can relate to them on account of their experiences. The city councilor will be confined to a symbiotic relationship where she publicly affiliates herself with the program and the program, through a representative, exploits the publicity that comes with it.
