Speech Introduction Elements
Introductions in the three speeches succinctly draw upon different elements of speech. As an informative speech, ‘first world problems’ begins its introduction with the hilarity woven into the image of the boy presented on the board. The introduction to this speech also integrates relevance and credibility by relating the image to the purpose of the speech. It creates a learning environment for the audience. With the statement, ‘hashtag first world problems’ the speech is very effective in instituting a framework around the targeted audience (First World Problems 00:00:42-46). Since the speech’s message is overriding conventional understanding of the nature of the problems, the audience was likely to be skeptical about her message in the introductory part noting that the speech only used two image presentations. That is, the words did not explain the meaning of those images. At this juncture, the introduction lacked relevance.
The introduction parts of the second speech ‘love at first sight’ is very strong in both logos (logical argument) and ethos (credibility of the speaker to the subject matter). By relating the subject to a research conducted in 2001, the introduction creates an emphatic feeling that proceeds to offer a real-life evidence-based case study to consolidate the speech’s topic. The introduction offers a clear-cut of credibility, good structure, and captivating anecdotes.

On the other hand, the thesis of the speech is premised on love at first sight yet, the research conducted in 2001 that the introduction uses to develop the thesis is not offering an overt relationship between the topic and his audience instead, flattering the audience. The best approach of creating such an introduction is to first understand that every audience is dealing with their problems and thus, the message should not be personalized.
The introduction of the speech ‘alopecia’ wisely injects hilarity in the introduction by removing the wig to connect her audience to the realities of the condition (alopecia). The introduction is further composed of empathy and thought-provoking references that help her audience create the relevance and connection to the reality. Another element of the speech’s introduction is the use of contrast. The most memorable is the quick shift from the sad nature of alopecia to her beauty. However, the introduction lacks the needed vocal variations to help her evoke different feelings from the audience.
