Qualitative research
This is a primarily exploratory study that is used to acquire an understanding about the underlying reasons, motivations, and opinion of a given issue of investigation. The qualitative research gives an insight to the researcher concerning the problem and even assists the researcher in developing hypotheses or idea to solve the problem.
In addiction and substance abuse, however, it is applied to give insight on the impacts that are brought about by too much drug use. And also the qualitative research helps the researcher to come up with possible solutions to the problems resulting from drug addiction. Examples of qualitative research in this field include;
The study conducted on the drug users indicates that the use of drugs results in an increased crime rate in the society and therefore hazardous to the community (Nichter, Quintero, Mock & Shakib, 2004).
From the research, it was discovered that the drug addicts don’t work hard and therefore they bring down the organizations where they work regarding the work output.
Pros
The information from the qualitative research is readily available.
Obtaining the data is also cheaper.
Con
The information is mainly generalization and mostly some of them can be outdated.
The outcome of the qualitative research cannot be relied on since most of them are assumptions that do not apply to all the addicts and drug users (Nichter, Quintero, Mock & Shakib, 2004).

Wait! State the research question you have chosen for your signature assignment and discuss it in terms of qualitative and quantitative research. Provide examples of quantitative and qualitative research yo paper is just an example!

Quantitative research
It is a systematic empirical investigation that is conducted on observable phenomena through statistical, computational or mathematical techniques.
In addiction and substance abuse, it is applied to investigate the number of homesteads that are experiencing domestic conflict as a result of too much drugs consumption, and the level of work output in workplaces. For example;
According to a research conducted in an organization, it was discovered that every department that has two or more drug addicts experiencing work delay at the end of the day, unlike the departments that doesn’t have drug addict.
The other research performed in the homesteads, it was noticed that the families that have drug addicts have limited money to spend on food. And also in most cases, such families have constant conflict. Three out of every five homestead that has a parent who is an addict experience domestic conflict.
Pros
The research got from the quantitative analysis is accurate.
The result of the research can be used for further investigation and studies.
Con
Obtaining data is involving and very expensive.
From the two methods, the quantitative research is more appropriate than the qualitative approach. This is because the quantitative research is more accurate and relatable.
