The reading test results for Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) and Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) are low because of two main reasons. Firstly, the results are publicly displayed leading to low morale amongst pupils. The second reason is poor preschool experience and poor parent intervention at the preschool level. These reasons, as identified by the writer can be easily solved through a concerted effort by parents and teachers. Responsibility and professionalism are an important step in this situation. Teachers need to be professional whereas parents need to be responsible and improve the preschool experience of their children. Teacher’s professionalism as far as evaluation is concerned in this context centers on confidentiality and individual privacy. Evaluators are tasked with the responsibility of safeguarding any student’s private information (Giancola, 2014). Displaying student’s results as a way of evaluation reporting has seen the writer’s school deserted by many students. Responsibility on the part of parents starts from the home environment whereby they are supposed to help young children transition well to school life. The interpretation of Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) and Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) results should address the long-term academic goals and how various programs should be implemented. Evaluations should improve academic outcomes as opposed to producing negative results such as making students migrate to other schools.

Students do not have the same capabilities, and interpretation of evaluation results should reflect how the academic goals of a different group of participants were met. Interpretation of evaluation results is meant to be consistent with the goals and objectives of different academic programs as opposed to victimizing weak students. MAP and MCA are part of wider academic programs, and this does not entirely determine the overall academic journey of students. The results of these tests should be used to better the academic experience of students in the writer’s school.
