English Colonial Development in the New World
Introduction
The English colonization of the New World involved people from England and Scotland migrating and colonizing America. Virginia was the first contact state between Englishmen and Americans. After that, colonization further spread to other parts of the United States. The British colonized the Americans where they spread their economic and military might. The English colonizers found diverse things in the Americas which they were not used to in Europe. These included land ownership, game, and different species of trees. Life in North America had a different lifestyle which the colonizers were not used to. Some of the aspects that the British brought to the New World include food culture, language, and religious patterns. English culture to the New World is one of the important influences of the colonization. Other aspects of the influence of the New World include military, development of governments, and movement of goods.
The nature of the first English settlements
During the 18th-century, the British settled in the Americas. They became the most prominent colonizers of the New World and defeated the French, Spanish, Italians, among other colonizers. Most English people migrated to the Americas in comparison to the Dutch, French, and Spanish (Gallup 46). Many colonies were established which made many immigrants to settle in the New World. During the 16th-century, England developed a high population growth.

Therefore, the colonies were a welcoming haven for the increased population. People were encouraged to emigrate from the Old World to the New World because they would find new opportunities. The scramble for resources in the New World made people migrate there. The Old World had few chances and scarce resources. Many English immigrants occupied mainly Maryland and Virginia where they worked in sugar and tobacco plantations. Other Englishmen became preachers of the gospel and the bible in the New World.
How the English met the New World
The British arrived in the New World from the Old World and started laying claim to the vast land. The Americas were characterized by vast agricultural land with high economic potential. The British brought a rich European tradition regarding property rights and law. The main reason for the migration from the Old World to the New World was because the former was crowded than the latter (Hoffer 27). There was an abundance of land in the Americas as compared to Europe, particularly England. The land would make the immigrants improve their lives. Also, the area was a way of making people have immense wealth and influence. Reasons ranging from profitability to religious freedom made the British settle in the New World. These migrations came from new cultures where the immigrants influenced the New World. Also, slavery became a distinct feature of the migrations because they were required to work on the plantations.
The cultural influence of the New World to the British
Things became brighter for the British when they settled in the New World. The British were able to enjoy a better life than what they were used to in England. Also, the British developed new eating habits and clothing style from the Americas. However, most cultural influences came from the British towards the Americas. The British built an extensive railway system that revolutionized the transport system at the time. Other influences in the telecommunication sector included telegraph and postal networks that eased communication (Hagger 8). The British are credited to have started numerous schools in the New World. The influence of British education in the Americas can still be felt today. There are dozens of schools, colleges, and universities that have a rich British history. For example, many schools and universities in Boston, Massachusetts have a rich British culture. Equally, English became mainly the language of instruction in these schools.
The British did not become truly American, and they maintained their Englishness. Although they were influenced by way of life in the Americans, their cultural identity remained the same without much distortion (Gallup 11). However, some American words found themselves in the English language, and it is still felt today. It was not an easy task to incorporate the Native American words into the English language. Nevertheless, this had a significant impact on the English language in the Americas and the world at large. The influence of the English language is still felt today.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Old World had some significant influence on the New World. The main reasons for migrating to the Americas were military, economic, and religious influences. Also, the scramble for land and minerals has always remained a significant reason that made the British to migrate to the Americas. The British brought some notable impact in the Americas when they migrated there. Some of the influences are still felt today. For example, most of the churches introduced by the British are still felt today. These influences include language, food, clothing, and modes of transportation. On the contrary, the Americas had some influence on the English language. This altered the English language to some extent.
