Abstract
The two best lines from the Auburn Creed that I associate with are “I believe in education, which gives me the knowledge to work wisely and trains my mind and my hands to work skillfully; along with the “I believe in honesty and truthfulness, without which I cannot win respect and confidence of my fellow men.” The two forms the foundation of stronger professional and social competencies. Education provides a platform to enhance the personal competence in professional associations and activities. It helps harness personal skills, which contribute to the overall wellbeing of professional development. Knowledge acquired through learning also helps a person to gain familiarity with new concepts associated with advanced technology. On the other hand, integrity and honesty play a central role in building strong relationships with people, especially in an increasingly diverse population in the contemporary world. A relationship that is based on trust is likely to last long and yield to the positive impact on the society.
The Auburn Creed
First, “I believe in education, which gives me the knowledge to work wisely and trains my mind and my hands to work skillfully” (Petrie, 1945). The modern world is characterized by advanced technology, which supplements our efforts in enhancing the environment and other people’s lives. The resulting advancements have been developed with the support of intellectual resources, which are acquired through education.
Wait! The Auburn Creed Revised paper is just an example!
Talents, experience, and competencies are achieved through professional development, which is a form of an education process. Noticeably, believing in the power of education in enhancing the professional competence requires me to strive towards achieving higher academic merits and excellence, which will facilitate in realizing my divine purpose within the engineering field and personal life. Besides, the existing knowledge in the current area of specialization has been made possible as a result of cumulative academic achievements throughout my life.
Secondly, “I believe in honesty and truthfulness, without which I cannot win respect and confidence of my fellow men” (Petrie, 1945). The modern world is increasingly becoming diverse, due to demographic characteristics and the movement of people, which is attributed to globalization. This means that nearly all workplaces, learning environments, and other public spaces are characterized by populations with different values and preferences. It also suggests that people ought to develop healthy social skills to facilitate interactions and collaborations. Notably, human resources within the scope of mechanical engineering are required to collaborate in efforts to exploit the full potential of the specialists in this field. A strong bond cannot exist before honesty and truthfulness are not the foundations of respect. Therefore, I believe in being honest with other people in efforts to enhance my social competence. It allows a person to respect personal, cultural and professional diversities in increasingly diverse populations.
