The Colombian Trade Union Movement

Introduction

The period between 1855 and 1920 could be said that it is the incubation period of the trade union movement itself in Colombia, since in the second half of the nineteenth century, associations of workers begin to be founded that served as a history of the unions themselves arising towards1920. Most of these associations had a short life. His birth was promoted by the Church and had more religious and reciprocal support ends than union, however, this experience served for the formation of new union leaders of the second decade of the twentieth century. According to the first union census advanced in Colombia by the Comptroller General of the Republic in 1947.

Developing

We can note that the typographer union in Bogotá was the first to obtain state recognition, upon receiving in 1906 his legal status. Since then the era of the official registration and legal recognition for the State begins. In the following two decades they received several more unions, there is a total of 99, by the end of 1930 all this brought with it the realization of the first strikes and the enrollment of the labor movement organized in the Socialist Party first and then in the communist. In this sense, the contribution of this guild to employees to the country had a special relevance to improve working conditions speaking in a general way.

It allowed them to have the conviction that they could demand and be entitled to better working conditions, to be taken into account by politics so that it will ensure its well -being, however this union has lost relevance and presence in the country’s working class.

Wait! The Colombian Trade Union Movement paper is just an example!

This is why it has been ironic to realize that after more than 150 years of the Colombian trade union movement, I pass an insipience stage in the first union associations after a long and arduous process, they gave way to strengthening and consolidation, exercising an important national presence at different times where they managed to become strong contradictors of both the national executive and the union leadership.

conclusion

Finally go to a stage of absence and weakening, becoming an organization that only brings together approximately 5% of the country’s workforce, which at this time exceeds more than 20 million workers. This figure illustrates the little interest on the part of the workers in this type of movement that have historically fought for workers, that is why it is necessary that a trade unionist who revives the very essence of trade unionism is necessary, which should notbe in the hands of few people concentrating power and benefits but in everyone’s hands.
