The controversy of transgenic foods

The great technological advances that have over the years have brought us to a point where we can genetically modify our food. This has caused a lot of controversy among people, ignoring all the benefits that these modified foods can have for society. This essay is going to talk about how these foods can have a positive impact on society and how they can help us solve problems from pests, pollution to malnutrition.

One of the main arguments against transgenic foods is that they are harmful to health and for the environment, but scientists say it has not been possible to demonstrate that these can harm health or the environment. The Food and Medicines Administration of the United States or also known as FDA, evaluates and ensures that all modified foods that go on sale are safe for human consumption. Also EPA and the Agriculture Department regulate plants and animals that are the product of bioengineering.

Genetic alteration brings enough benefits. Crops can be planted in sterile areas or drought areas. The fruits are more durable and even more nutritious can be made, this can help a lot the parts of the world where hunger is suffered. Crops can even be modified so that they are protected against pests, pests, insects and weeds; reducing the use of pesticides that can be harmful to farmers as well as for consumers of this product.

An example of how transgenic foods have helped society could be seen in Bangladesh with a modification that was made to eggplant, which is a fairly important crop in that country.

Wait! The Controversy Of Transgenic Foods paper is just an example!

Frequently whole crops are lost due to pests which forced farmers to use quite pesticide, this used to be quite expensive and farmers used to finish sick. But in 2013 a eggplant was introduced which was immune to pests and was poisonous for certain insects, because of this the use of pesticides was reduced by 80% and the proficulture gains increased highly.

Seeing all the benefits that genetic alteration can bring to food one would think that they have a fairly high price, but this could not be further from the truth, the truth is that with genetically modified foods you can get larger fruits , in greater quantities and for a lower price.

Genetically modified foods can become the solution to many of the problems we have today, the necessary regulations and restrictions have always been taken into account for this to remain safe. But if we manage to remove the idea of the head that these products are "wicked" and that they can supposedly harm us, we could advance a lot as society and continue solving other major problems.
