Response to Janet’s post
Janet’s post discusses the impact of changing locations using Toyota’s anticipated move to Texas as a case study. I must agree with the points she made since they make some valid arguments, particularly when talking about the benefits that Toyota is likely to realize from the move. Still, I feel that more points can be added. Firstly, the move is likely to improve facility organization since the company would be keen to address the shortcomings noted in the initial facility, being keen to improve personnel accessibility, strategic locations, and larger spacing even as the company expands to address the needs of an expanding market. In essence, the company faces the reality of increasing costs and productivity, a concern that is best addressed through changing locations so that workers are able to complete their tasks more efficiently even as overhead costs are kept to a realistic minimum. Secondly, the new facility would offer better spacing, adopting a modern design that the smooth flow of materials and goods in the production line. That is in consideration of the fact that the company has included layout philosophies (such as approved architectural designs, local government guidelines, and so on) and capacity factors (such as shape and size) to determine the need for space. In this respect, it must be acknowledged that Toyota’s move is guided by a need to have a location that maximizes space, ensuring a balance between service and operational costs, packaging products in appropriate unit loads, improving efficient movement of personnel and goods, and that the facility is environmentally sound, safe and secure (UA College of Continuing Studies, 2014).

In this respect, it can be stated that Toyota’s move has been planned to ensure that inventory is located near exit and entry points to minimize costs while improving operational efficiency.
Response to Misty’s post
Misty’s post discusses Mercedes-Benz move from New Jersey to Atlanta by focusing on the business effects. In fact, the post begins by characterizing the company’s move in terms of tangible quantities in the form of personnel. It then goes on to discuss some of the benefits to be realized from the move, to include reduced costs, tax breaks, and job creation. In addition, the post concludes with a thesis statement that lauds the move for having a positive impact on both the company’s financial performance and the environment in the new location. As a result, the post has been well written to include coherently presented ideas along with a thesis statement. Still, it must be acknowledged that there are certain aspects that would have been included to make the discussion more complete. In fact, the move will ensure that the new facility is controllable and easily accessible. The new location has been determined using locator systems as tools that take into account the fact that a favorable site will improve inventory control. Besides that, it is clear that the company used goods mapping systems that look at the demand density supply chain. As a transport hub, Atlanta meets those needs to facilitate the movement of products between production facilities and storage sites. Besides that, the new facility has a large market that the company can easily access for its products. With the large market, the company would be able to improve its earnings and gain a larger market share (Geraldine & Yves, 2010). Overall, the new location allows Toyota to operate in an area where it is able to minimize operational costs and efficiently use transport services.
