The Link between How Psychology Affects Violent CriminalsThe general outlook of violent criminals differs from one criminal to another. However, these individuals share some biological and psychological traits responsible for their behaviour. Different fragments of human brain including the neurotransmitters, serotonin levels, and the anterior cingulate cortex, among other parts, affect the psychological tendencies of an individual. A section of the human brain called as the amygdala is responsible for characteristics such as fear, social interactions as well as aggression. Individuals with violent tendencies have reduced size and functioning of this part of the brain (Motz 2). The brain influences the biological and psychological roots of violence.
The levels of neurotransmitters in the brain are responsible for the behaviour manifestation in an individual. Abnormalities in the levels and composition of the neurotransmitters can be exhibited through violent crimes and other abnormal tendencies. Reduced extents of a human brain chemical called serotonin are associated with acts of violence because this chemical is responsible for regulating impulsive behaviour. As such, when an individual’s brain has low levels of serotonin, the neurotransmitters function abnormally, and this results in acts of violence. Individuals with the right amount of serotonin can control impulsive behaviour (Motz 2).
The human mind, through its functions, is responsible for regulating and controlling the actions of individuals.

The process is done through regulating the production and secretion of chemicals responsible for actions and reactions on a certain scenario (Motz 2). The part of the brain known as the amygdala is largely responsible for aggressive behaviour. Also, the levels of serotonin affect the presence or absence of violent tendencies. As such, there is a link between psychology and violent crimes. Conclusively, the psychology of an individual will determine whether or not they will exhibit violent tendencies.
