The Omnivore’s Dilemma
This impression is deceptive relating to the fact that the American supermarket has to turn out to be a narrow biological foundation. This means that the supermarket is comprised of few or a small collection of plants that emanates from a single species commonly known as Zea mays or corn. The impression tends to create a picture that the supermarket is a collection of many foodstuffs commonly used by man and therefore it should be looked like a natural ecosystem capable of providing the needs of man. This is not the case since human being eats the products of nature but not industries such as a supermarket. The supermarket only contains a portion of naturalistic products that to a certain extent are collected from one species. The expression is deceptive since there are only handful foods on the shelf of the supermarkets with food products emanating from one location (Pollan 81). This in itself does not give a diverse image of the foodstuff that exists in the counters.
Pollan asks the audience to look at the supermarket differently by arguing that almost what one may need to eat is found on the shelves. The author argued that the supermarket grocery has everything placed with the intention of addressing the needs of human being. Everything in the grocery store is placed to attract the consumers by giving the broader view that the entire products found in the ecosystem can be extracted from the store from a mere glance.
